A poet speaks out

I came across this a week late: an open letter to Laura Bush from poet Sharon Olds, in The Nation. Read it to the very end - the last two sentences made my skin prickle.

Truth-tellers, the good ones... This letter made me proud to be an American. I mean, look at the alternatives. Then look at the intellectual freedoms we enjoy, and the world of arts and letters here - flawed as it is, it's still wonderful.
